WALKING WITH SHADOWS

FEATURE FILM

A man has to come to terms with his dark secret and choose between keeping his family or accepting a life of possible loneliness and rejection.

DESCRIPTION

I had the privilege of being involved in the early stages of my colour grading career when I had the opportunity to work on the remarkable feature film 'Walking With Shadows'. Initially, I was entrusted with the task of grading the film's trailer, collaborating closely with director Aoife O'Kelly to craft a captivating look for selected scenes, optimizing the exceptional cinematography captured by DOP Gerard Puigmal. Upon completing the trailer, I was asked by producer Funmi Iyanda if I would like to come on board for the full film.

Having already delved into the trailer, I gained a deeper understanding of the unique qualities of the footage and developed a strong sense of the stylistic direction desired by Aoife. Armed with this knowledge, I was able to approach the full film with confidence and a clear vision.

A significant aspect of the grading process revolved around effectively differentiating between the flashback scenes and the present day. Through extensive experimentation, my team and I explored various looks, ultimately settling on a bleach bypass aesthetic. This approach involved desaturating the colors while retaining a hint of silvery tones in the image. Although subtle, we found that this technique had the desired impact on the audience, reinforcing the distinct timeline shifts within the narrative.

This project offered me invaluable experience and allowed me to contribute to an artistic endeavor that captivated audiences and left a lasting impression.
